Ygritte‘s Story
Just like the Game of Thrones female warrior (who has red hair), my name is Ygritte and I am brave and protective just like her. I am a 3-4 year old, 52-pound Standard Poodle. I’ve loved spending time with my foster pack and definitely want to have at least one other dog in my permanent home, if possible. I’ve learned from my foster humans that soft touches on my head and body along with small kisses here and there on my snout are some of the most wonderful things I can imagine. I can’t get enough!
My day usually starts with a quick stroll around the backyard to do my business and then some time laying around or watching out the front door for people strolling by or squirrels that might be running across the front yard. I’m always ready for breakfast and I let my humans know how excited I am (I’m an excellent eater) by snapping my jaws, snorting and running around in circles. I always eat my two meals a day right away and never linger. When I eat, I like to be separated from any other dogs in the pack so that I have my own space and feel safe.
After breakfast, I spend time laying on my dog bed or snoozing in the sun by the front door. If someone dares to come to the front door to deliver a package, I let my humans know they’re coming with exuberant barking. I take protecting the house seriously! Later on in the day, I may chew on a toy but I am a professional napper so I head for the couch and sack out to get my strength together later for a walk. I’ve learned to walk on a leash with my humans and that is a good thing because walks are amazing and fun. I wait all day to go out and explore the neighborhood with my humans and pack mates. When other dogs or humans approach, I’m a little shy and may hide behind someone else at first but I warm up eventually.
I can stay in my crate when my family is gone but I would prefer being kept in a room with the door open or hallway with a baby gate so I can see what’s going on and have a little freedom. When my humans come home, they can hear me yodeling as they come in from the garage because I’m so excited to see them! I run right over to them and snort and run around in circles smiling wide and showing my teeth the whole time. Car rides are super fun for me and I can sit on the backseat or stand in the back of an SUV with no problem looking out the window.
My foster humans always tell me how smart I am and how quickly I learn but I’m not surprised by that. Duh, I’m a standard poodle! I’m also pretty dang cute with my chocolate brown fur and blonde ears. I’ve already had puppies so now it’s time for me to retire and settle down with my perfect permanent family. I can’t wait to meet them!
