Hi, I’m Ruthie, I’m a two year old, non shedding sheepadoodle who is still learning what it means to feel safe in the world. I have a very gentle and quiet nature, and I’m looking for a home that understands I may take time to truly settle in and feel comfortable.
I am a very sweet but timid girl who prefers my own space most of the time. You’ll usually find me curled up in my bed or resting somewhere I feel safe, and while I don’t seek out pets or cuddles, I do like being nearby and will quietly keep you company. My happiest moments happen outside, whether I’m going on walks, exploring the backyard, or visiting the dog park. I really rely on another confident dog to help me feel safe and will often follow their lead. Right now, my playful and happy moments are still rare, usually just once or twice a day, and the rest of the time I am calm, quiet, and reserved. I can be sensitive to things like loud noises, thunderstorms, and being alone.
I do best with a calm and predictable routine. My day usually starts around 6:30 with a potty break, followed by a short walk before my foster family leaves for work. I am crated while they are away, which is not my favorite, and I do best with only very durable items since I can get anxious. When they get home, I enjoy spending time outside to release some energy, followed by a quiet evening relaxing nearby. We usually end the day with a longer walk before I settle in to sleep on my bed in my foster parents’ room.
I am still learning how to trust people and feel comfortable in a home. Right now, I spend about 95 percent of my time in my safe space and prefer not to be touched. I don’t know any commands yet because I am still figuring out what people expect from me. I am not a typical dog who will immediately bond or seek affection, and it may take me several months to truly open up. I will need a very patient and understanding family who will let me move at my own pace. The good news is my foster family has already seen small signs of progress, and with time, consistency, and a calm environment, I will continue to grow.
I am looking for a very specific kind of home that understands I am a slow bloomer. I will need another confident dog, a calm household, and a fenced yard where I can safely build confidence. A flexible schedule will be important since I can feel anxious when left alone. I would do best in a home with older children or adults who will respect my space and allow me to come out of my shell at my own pace. If you are patient, kind, and willing to give me the time I need, I truly believe there is something very special waiting underneath it all.
