Hi, my name is “Chickadee” but my foster parents lovingly call me “Chick-a-doodle” or “Chickie”, which I readily answer to. My vet estimated me to be between 2 to 3 years old, a poodle mix, and around 51 lbs. I came into the rescue as a breeder surrender but I am adjusting well to being part of a family. I’m really starting to enjoy being pampered and petted which adds to my sweet nature. I have a beautiful grey/sable/ Merle coat (with brown tips on my face). My coat is very curly, non-shedding, so it will require regular grooming; however, I am VERY well behaved while grooming.
I am a calm natured girl and I am learning to trust humans. I have 1 foster brother, and 3 foster sisters, and I get along perfectly with all of them. Even the two younger (and crazy) ones…I handle (ignore) them all like a pro. I also get along great with my foster kitty…even when she tries to cuddle with me.
I use a doggie door (on day two at my foster home) like a pro! I have not had one single accident in the house since I arrived at my foster home. 🙌 I love hanging out with my family, but I especially love following my Dad around (who I absolutely adore!). I have helped him mow the yard, I have supervised sprinkler system repair, and even helped my Mom with her backyard work too. I want to be where my people are, but in a very calm and quiet way, like a constant companion…but I do have my playful zoomies moments here-and-there.
My day starts when my parents wake up (around 6:30 to 7:30) but I could easily adjust to your schedule. Upon waking I am a very calm, patient, and a quiet girl. I lovingly lay my head on the side of my parent’s bed in the morning to see if they are awake, but I don’t pester them if they are still sleeping. I have a healthy appetite and love occasional treats.
About 30 minutes, after breakfast, I love going on a walk so I can explore the neighborhood and be on the lookout for squirrels. Then I am happy doing whatever you are doing for the rest of the afternoon. I am such a chill girl and look forward to spending time with my family.
I typically eat dinner around 5:00 to 5:30 then I have about an hour of playtime outside before I tuck myself into one of the doggie beds for TV time with my family. I go to bed when my parents go to bed, and I sleep on one of the doggie beds next to their bed.
I did well with crating when I first arrived at my foster home but I have been so well behaved that I haven’t needed to be crated since then.
I’m still learning to trust so sometimes I duck my head a little when I’m approached for petting but once I’m spoken softly to, or feel reassured, I totally relax. I’m still working on basic training such as “Sitting” for treat rewards. I’m starting to get it, but still a little confused by it all.
